HIGHWAYS & TRANSPORTATION

Key points on highways and transportation

The application site is highly accessible and benefits from close proximity to the strategic highway network (M60) and the A6017 Ashton Road. This minimises the need for much of the traffic, particularly goods vehicles, to use local roads.

A detailed transport assessment will be undertaken in close liaison with SMBC Highways and National Highways. The applicant will ensure that the proposals will not result in a severe impact, and mitigation measures will be provided where necessary.

It is anticipated that the proposed development will provide a number of highways and sustainable travel improvements, which are likely to include new or improved footways and cycleways through the site, and improved bus services.

The applicant is committed to producing a travel plan which will encourage walking, cycling, bus travel and car sharing. Specific measures to encourage cycling could include secure cycle parking, showers and changing rooms for staff.

Three public rights of way run through the site. Consideration will be given to diverting these paths around the edge of the site, but new foot and cycle paths within the site will connect to them.

Any diverted paths will be upgraded, potentially with widening, improved surfacing and enhanced drainage.

Adequate car parking will be provided on site, including Electric Vehicle charging facilities.
